Gayatri mantra

Gayatri MantraThe Gāyatrī mantra (Ṛgveda II-62-10) can be considered as the most important among all Vedic mantras.

According to ancient tradition it used to be transmitted by the master to the disciple in secrecy, on the day of initiation. However it has started being spread to the public nowadays, with the idea that chanting it may help a very large number of people.

oṃ bhūrbhuvaḥ svaḥ |
tat savitur vareṇyam |
bhargo devasya dhīmahi |
dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt ||

It is a mantra of enlightenment and there are many translations for it. We can suggest the following one, adapted from a teaching by Śrī Tathāta on August 5, 2011.

Translation:

Let us reconnect our 3 basic (physical, pranic and mental) bodies with the corresponding planes of the universe; |
may the energy of the sun awaken in us the Energy of the Ultimate [which it is a reflection of]; |
through meditation we invite this radiant glory to divinise us…; |
…up to Divine Intelligence, full enlightenment. ||
